The Tarawīh is a sunnah prayer which is performed in the month of Ramadan. The prophet ﷺ said: ’’ Whoever establishes prayers during (the nights of) Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, all his past sins will be forgiven.’’ (Bukhārī)

The linguistic meaning of Tarawīh is time of rest. This refers to that which is taken after every four rak’as.The tarawih prayer is sunnah for both men and women. It consists out of a total of twenty rak’as in sets of two rak’as. It must be prayed after isha’ in the month of Ramadan.

The Prophet said, "Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven ."
